An overall settlement of the Arab-Israel conflict is one of the major planks in a five-step program advocated by the British Labor Party to solve the Middle East crisis including the current Suez Canal dispute. The program was published here today by Alfred Robens, MP and foreign affairs spokesman for the Labor Party.
Mr. Robens called for an “all out effort” to bring about Arab-Israel peace, noting that such a settlement would “enormously reduce the present crushing arms burden on all Middle East countries.” He further proposed that the Palestine Arab problem be solved by economic and development aid on a “big enough scale.” This would involve, Mr. Robens continued, the provision of jobs for the refugees and irrigation schemes to provide them with land for new villages.
The Labor Party plan would further provide for a “master plan” for the economic development of the entire Middle East. Under it every nation would list its needs and what it could provide toward meeting such development projects while other nations willing and able to give technical and financial aid would sit down with the recipient nations at the United Nations or any other international agency to work out the program.
