A campaign goal of $18,100,000 has been adopted by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York for its 39th annual appeal for the support of its 116 affiliated institutions throughout Greater New York, it was announced today. The announcement was made jointly by Salim L. Lewis, Federation president, and Lawrence Marx, Jr., 1956-57 campaign chairman.
The amount being sought in the drive is $1,600,000 more than was raised in last year’s Federation campaign, Mr. Marx reported. Federation requires these funds, which are to be raised in pledges and contributions, in order to maintain its affiliated institutions and to meet problems covering the entire range of medical and welfare needs. He pointed out that these services provided by the member agencies are conducted for the general community, irrespective of race or religion. Federation will open its campaign officially with a dinner meeting at the Hotel Plaza on October 4th.
