Professor Isaac Zaretsky, noted Soviet Jewish philologist and expert on the Yiddish language, died in Kursk, in the Soviet Union, last August 27, according to a report in the Warsaw Yiddish newspaper “Folkshtimme,” which reached here today. He was 65 years old.
The author of numerous books on Yiddish philology and grammar, Prof. Zaretsky was the leading spirit in carrying out the Yiddish orthographic reform which took place in the Soviet Union in 1920. He also had served as editor of a Soviet Yiddish philological journal.
