A proposal that the United Nations take the initiative in forming a Middle East regional board of health to eliminate epidemic disease from the area and to train much needed medical personnel was put forth here last night by Dr. Kalman J. Mann, Hadassah medical director in Israel. He was speaking to more than 2,500 delegates from all parts of the United States attending the 42nd annual convention of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.
Hadassah would make available to such a regional health board all its health services, medical research and teaching facilities, Dr. Mann promised. Creation of the board, he said, would pave the way for: joint action to clear swamps and rivers of malaria, typhoid and bilharzia; the training at Hadassah Hospital of Arab physicians in certain specialties; the training of Arab medical students in the Israel Medical School, and a general raising of health and hygiene standards in the Middle East.
