A scheduled meeting to celebrate Israel Premier David Ben Gurion’s 70th birthday was transformed last night into a rousing demonstration of Argentine Jewry’s solidarity with the State and people of Israel. In a spontaneous demonstration, members of the audience sent to the platform checks for contributions to an emergency Israel defense campaign. The Buenos Aires Jewish Community pledged 1,000,000 pesos.

Israel Ambassador Arieh L. Kubovy, reviewing the situation in the Middle East, asserted that “Ben Gurion represents the revolution in the Jewish spirit.” It is better, the Ambassador insisted, “to be asked why we fought instead of being asked why we did not fight, why we waited “to be asked why we fought instead of being asked why we did not fight, why we waited until it was too late. We prefer that people be angered at us rather than pitying us.”
