British War Secretary Calls Report “worthless Gossip”

The British Government had no information about a Manchester Guardian report that French fighter pilots flying French Mysteres had cooperated with Israel in the Sinai Peninsula operations, a British Foreign spokesman said here today. He emphasized that Britain’s action in the Suez area was separate from that of the Israeli attack.

In Commons today, War Secretary John Hare declared that his department had received no advance information of the Israeli attack.” Replying to questions referring to the details contained in this mornings Manchester Guardian report of French cooperation with Israel, Mr. Hare advised his Laborite questions, that they were “merely repeating worthless gossip.” In reply to other questions, the War Secretary admitted that a portion of the Egyptian arms captured at Port Said had been supplied by Britain.
