President Eisenhower today appointed former Rep Lames P. Richards, South Carolina Democrat to be a special adviser and assistant on Middle East problems. Mr. Richards will also be chief of the American mission which the Administration hopes to send to the Middle East in line with the President’s proposal to block Communist aggression there. He will hold the rank of personal ambassador.
The Southern Democrat who was formerly chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee did not run for re-election to Congress last year. As head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Richards often criticized the amount of American aid extended to Israel.
