The danger of deportation still hangs over thousands of Egyptian Jews, particularly those who are officially stateless, newly arriving Egyptian Jewish refugees declared here today. A total of 109 Jews from Egypt arrived in two El Al planes today, one from Athens, the second from Naples.
Among the arrivals were a number of youths who had been arrested during a “Zionist espionage” trial and later released without any verdict having been reached. They were all deported. Also, they were all beaten and tortured by police investigators, the youths reported. It was estimated here today that about 2,500 Egyptian Jews have already reached Israel. Several thousand more are expected.
