Egyptian officers captured during the Sinai campaign have been taken on extensive tours of Israel and given broad pictures of Israel life in the cities, villages and kibbutzim. Similar tours were organized in 1949 for Egyptian officers captured in the War of Liberation.
Among the visitors were field and staff officers of the Gaza and Sinai commands, physicians attached to the army and members of the military occupation administration of the Gaza Strip. Col. Ali Rifat Adin and other top officers were introduced into Ramath Gan homes while their wives, brought from civilian detention camps, met and conversed with Israeli women in the town.
Egyptian visitors were shown through the Knesset building, and roamed as far afield as Tel Aviv, Haifa and the Lake Tiberias area. They were dressed in civilian clothes and were accompanied by civilian guides. Some of the Egyptian officers seemed to have been impressed by the tours while others openly resented them.
