Canadian Jewish Girl Wins Art Competition Sponsored by Indian Govt.

A 16-year-old Montreal Jewish girl has won the art competition sponsored by the Indian Government over 37,000 competitors, she was notified today by the Indian High Commissioner in Ottawa.

The girl, Judith Laiken, of Cutremont High School, submitted the portrait of a Negro boy in the International Children’s Contest in which more than 37,000 youthful painters from 60 countries participated. She will receive the President’s Gold Medal to signify her victory – the first time this medal has been won by a Canadian.
