Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the Jewish Agency and head of the World Jewish Congress, was received at an official audience here this week-end by Uruguayan President Arturo Lezama. A guard of honor saluted Dr. Goldmann with solemn military honors upon his arrival at Government House and upon his departure.
When Dr. Goldmann arrived by plane at the Montevideo International Airport, he was greeted by the government’s Chief of Protocol and declared a guest of the government. Others at the airport to greet the guest were Israel’s Charge d’Affaires here, Joel Barromi, leading municipal officials, and leaders of the country’s Jewish community. Before going to Government House for his audience with President Lezama, Dr. Goldmann conferred with the Foreign Minister, Dr. Francisco Gamarra.
