Another passenger vessel built for the Israel merchant marine under the Bonn reparations pact, the new 10, 000-ton “Jerusalem, ” was launched here this week-end.

A sister ship of the “Theodor Herzl,” delivered two weeks ago and currently on her maiden voyage to Haifa, the new “Jerusalem” will also be assigned to the Haifa-Marseille express run when she is finished in the fall. She may carry tourists to South America on luxury cruises during part of the year.

The name “Jerusalem” bestowed on the hull as it slid down the ways of the Deutsche Werft shipyard, was until now borne by a 44-year-old liner ranking as the largest vessel under the Israeli flag with 11, 000 tons. That ship has been re-named “Aliyah” and will be employed only for transport of immigrants from Mediterranean ports.
