More than one-third of rural and borough councils throughout Britain to which resolutions on shechita were submitted during the first three months of this year voted against the Jewish ritual slaughter practice, Dr. I. E. Burton stated today at a meeting of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council.
Reporting on the continuing need for a strong fight against well-financed foes of shechita, who maintain constant agitation against the ritual practice, Dr. Burton said that out of a total of 1, 823 resolutions put before the local councils in the three months, only 13 councils voted favorably. He said no action Lai yet been taken by 1,079 of the local government units and 549 anti-shechita resolutions were approved. Results in 182 cases were not known, he reported.
