The International Labor Organization began today a discussion on the problems of discrimination in employment and in occupation based specifically on two reports describing the different types of discrimination and national and international actions and programs aimed at preventing discriminatory practices. A final decision will not be reached at this year’s conference, but will be held over for another debate next year.
A. Becker, Histadrut official and Israeli delegate to the ILO parley, reviewed Israeli progress in providing employment opportunities to the tens of thousands of immigrants currently entering the Jewish State. Mr. Becker noted that Israel was still depending a large portion of its resources to “meet external security needs” although the resources would be of greater benefit to the workers of Israel and the surrounding countries if it were used in peaceful cooperation in the struggle against poverty and ignorance.
