A United Nations observer and an Israeli officer accompanying him on a mission near the Israel-Syrian demarcation line to investigate a sabotage act in Upper Galilee were pinned down by Syrian gunfire for several hours today before being extricated by Israeli troops, a military spokesman announced here tonight. Neither the observer, Canadian Major M. Forest, nor any Israeli was hurt, although at times the fire was exceedingly heavy.
