The possibility of a joint exploitation of Ghana’s diamond deposits by Israel is expected to be one of the principal subjects to be discussed here during the visit of a five-member delegation from the new African nation, which arrived today.
The possibility hinged on the fact that Ghana’s raw diamond deposits are outside the international diamond syndicate framework and on the availability of facilities for diamond polishing in Israel, Another joint venture reported likely for discussion is a new shipping company with 51 percent Ghana and 49 percent Israeli ownership.
Delegation members also planned to visit various industries and agricultural settlements in search of projects which Israel might help to establish in Ghana which, as one of the world’s largest sources of timber for plywood, wants plywood and insulating board factories. Ghana is also interested in establishing modern poultry farms similar to those in Israeli settlements. The new nation also needs geologists to search for mineral wealth and contractors to build major development projects.
