The South African Zionist Federation today announced expulsion of the Revisionist party for rejecting a compromise proposal in a fund-raising dispute and for proceeding with plans to operate its own fund campaign.
The Federation said the decision was made at a meeting of the South African Zionist Council and urged South African Jewry to reject support of the Revisionist campaign. The Revisionists meanwhile announced that Menachem Beigin and Chaim Landau, leaders of the right-wing Herut party in Israel, would arrive here August 11 to launch the campaign.
The expulsion had been forecast by I. Dunsky, Federation chairman, who said the Revisionist stand had left the Federation no alternative. Mr. Dunsky had described the Revisionist decision as a breach of fund-raising agreements which made the Israeli United Appeal the only Zionist fund campaign, alternating biennially with the United Communal Fund campaign for domestic Jewish institutions. He called the Revisionist decision “a grave disservice to South African Jewry.”
