President Tito of Yugoslavia reiterated his wish to visit Israel “on a suitable occasion, ” during a meeting with Aryeh Levavi, Israeli Ambassador to Belgrade, the envoy disclosed today. Mr. Levavi, who returned to Israel to become Deputy Director General of the Foreign Ministry, said Marshal Tito told him there were no issues in dispute between Israel and Yugoslavia and expressed a desire for closer economic and cultural relations.
In the conversations, which took place at a lengthy farewell meeting, Marshal Tito echoed the Middle East views of Premier Nehru of India in saying that a “cooling-off period” of no incidents was necessary on Israel’s borders, Mr. Levavi said. The Yugoslav leader also said that in spite of everything, he considered President Nasser of Egypt “the most reasonable” Arab ruler, the Israel diplomat reported.
