Russian automatic weapon cartridges were found on Israel territory near Tel Aziat where Syrian gunners yesterday killed an Israel tractor driver, Israel officials reported today.

They said an investigation revealed that the Syrians placed gunners in ambush within Israel territory and that the gunners fired from those positions on workers, killing Joseph Benchaim, 30, of Shaar Yushav. Three rounds of Russian 0.762 cartridges and bearing the Russian letter ‘G’ were found at one of the ambush spots, the first time Russian ammunition has been found in Israel.

Syrian gunners opened fire again this morning on a group of Israel farmers in a field at Shaar Yashuv in the latest of a running series of Syrian shooting attacks. An Israel border patrol returned the fire and silenced the Syrian machine guns. There were no Israel casualties. Three cases of firing by Syrians against Israelis occurred yesterday. There were no Israel casualties reported from any of the three incidents.
