–Integration of the Jewish Federation and Council of Pontiac with the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit was announced here by Dr. Harry Arnkoff and Judge Theodore Levin, president of the two organizations. Members of the 200 Jewish families in Pontiac will participate in the 1958 Allied Jewish Campaign as residents of the Greater Detroit area served by the Jewish Welfare Federation and its 13 local member agencies.
Full integration of the Jewish Federation and Council of Pontiac and the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit followed a year of experimental cooperation in fund-raising and in exploration of the extensive range of Detroit local services to Pontiac Jewry. These local services included those of two Detroit Jewish camps, the Jewish Community Center, a family and children’s social service, a home for the aged and the Hebrew Free Loan society.
Officials of the two agencies noted that the integration recognized that the movement of Jewish population has redefined the area of the organized Jewish community beyond formal municipal boundary lines.
