The Australian Government issued this month several hundred immigration visas for Jews in Poland who indicated a desire to join relatives in Australia, it was reported here by Sydney Einfeld, president of the Federation of Australian Jewish Welfare Societies, who is now on a visit to the United States.
Mr. Einfeld made this announcement at a luncheon in his honor given by the United Hias Service. Murray Gurfein, president of UHS, revealed that the initial group of 50 Australia-bound Jews had already left Poland and is en route to Melbourne and Sydney. The United Hias Service has assumed responsibility for transporting the Polish Jews and the Joint Distribution Committee will assist in their resettlement and integration in Australia.
