Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold returned from the Middle East today after spending a week with United Nations Emergency Force units in the Gaza Strip and a series of conferences with top Egyptian officials.
The Secretary General refused to make any comment on his talks in Cairo, asserting while that portion of his visit was “not exactly private,” it was close to private.” He spoke glowingly of his experiences with the UNEF troops and praised them for the important task they were performing in the interests of the UN.
