Scholarships and prizes totalling 60,000 Israeli pounds were awarded to 160 outstanding students at a ceremony held at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. An additional 115,000 pounds is available for student loans, and applications for such aid are now being processed. Professor Y. Ratner, acting president of the Technion and Justice M. Landau, chairman of the Technion board of governors, addressed the students.
B. Tooval, dean of students, explained that the awards were made on the basis of scholastic achievement and financial need. Sixteen of the scholarships were earmarked for new immigrants. Eighty-eight outstanding students not in need of financial aid were awarded certificates of distinction at the ceremony.
