Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, acting chairman of the Jewish Agency, left today by air for Jerusalem to attend a meeting of the Jewish Agency executive, the supreme legislative body of the World Zionist Organization between Zionist congresses. The meetings will be devoted to a review of the Jewish Agency’s budget for the fiscal year 1958-59.
Mrs. Halprin stated that the critical shortage of philanthropic funds makes it increasingly difficult to meet adequately the Agency’s responsibilities in its three major fields of operation: rescue immigration, rehabilitation of Israel’s newcomers, and cultural and educational activities in Israel and in the Diaspora.
She indicated that one of the most urgent points on the Actions Committee’s agenda was the problem of reducing the critical absorption backlog which has piled up during prolonged periods of mass immigration to Israel. On her way to Jerusalem, Mrs. Halprin plans to stop over in London to attend a meeting of the reorganized World Confederation of General Zionists.
