Mrs. Caroline K. Simon has been appointed advisor to Mrs. Oswald B. Lord, United States representative on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
Mrs. Simon, who is Commissioner of the New York State Youth Commission, is active in the American Jewish Committee and in a number of other Jewish organizations and philanthropies. A native of New York City, she is a graduate of Columbia University and New York University Law School and served on the State Commission Against Discrimination.
Ambassador R.S.S. Gunewardene of Ceylon was unanimously elected chairman of the United Nations Human Rights Commission as that body opened its 14th meeting here today. Karin Azkoul of Lebanon and Mme. Sophia Vasilewska of Poland were named first and second vice chairmen, respectively, also by unanimous ballot. Mme. Vasilewska was nominated by France and seconded by Israel, Mexico and the USSR.
