Ten former Gestapo members charged with the murder of at least 5, 000 Jews in Memel, Lithuania, in 1941 went on trial here today. The trial is expected to last three months.

Bernhard Fischer-Schweder, former Nazi police chief of Memel, is one of the chief defendants. He was uncovered hiding in a refugee camp two years ago when he complained about being dismissed from the post of head of the camp. Some 200 witnesses are expected to be heard in the proceedings.
