Soviet Premier Nikita S, Khrushchev described the state of Israel in its relations to the Arab world as an aggressor, it became known here with the release of a text in Moscow of Mr Khrushchev’s speech at a dinner in honor of visiting United Arab Republic Gamal Abdel Nasser. The Soviet Premier’s description of Israel’s role was in language quite similar to intemperate Arab remarks about Israel.
Taking his cue from his host, President Nasser expressed his pleasure at discovering that the Soviet view on Israel coincided with his. He said that Premier Khrushchev understood “the danger of Israel, which threatens Arab countries, since Israel is a bridgehead of imperialism.”
(In Cairo, meanwhile, the Arab newspapers carry dispatches from their correspondents in Moscow to the effect that Col. Nasser has succeeded in his bid for Soviet support of Arab demands in relation to Israel. The influential daily Al Ahram, whose editor-in-chief Mohammed Hassanein Heikal is accompanying Col. Nasser on his 18-day visit to the USSR said that the UAR chief of state had conferred at length with Mr. Khrushchev on Israel and had won him over.)
