The House approved yesterday and sent to the Senate a measure which would clear the way for 31, 000 Hungarian refugees who came to this country after the 1956 rebellion to become American citizens.
The measure, designed to carry out President Eisenhower’s request that the refugees-most of whom are officially parolees–be given permanent status, provides that they be checked by immigration officials after they have spent two years in the United States, Those who received clearance would be given permanent residence status retroactive to the date of their arrival, thus shortening the time required to obtain citizenship.
