Conservative Synagogue Group Rejects Gambling for Fund-raising

A guide for Conservative synagogue men’s clubs stressing the need for kashruth and traditional observance of the Sabbath at public functions and turning thumbs down on the use of games of chance as fund-raising devices for synagogue groups, was adopted at the recent convention of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, it was revealed here today.

This is the first time a national synagogue men’s club organization has embraced such a program on a national basis, according to Rabbi Joel S. Geffen, spiritual leader of the federation. The program underlined the need for a “judicious combination of social activities with meaningful programs of Jewish significance and content.”
