A delegation of American Zionist leaders today called on Congressional leaders of both parties in the Senate and House to express appreciation for recent Congressional resolutions hailing Israel on its 10th anniversary. They pointed out that the resolutions and statements made by more than 100 members of Congress were a renewed demonstration of the traditional bi-partisan friendship of the American people for Israel.
The delegation, representing the major Zionist organizations in the United States, met with Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson, of Texas, minority Leader William F. Knowland of California; House Majority Leader John W. McCormack, of Massachusetts, and House Minority Leader John W.Martin, Jr., of Massachusetts. They also met important members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Members of the delegation included Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, chairman of the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs; Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the American Zionist Council; Pinchas Cruso, president of the Labor Zionists; Mrs. Mortime Jacobson, vice president of Hadassah; Mrs. Valia Hirsch, secretary of the Progressive Zionist League; Paul Goldman, national secretary of the United Labor Zionist Party; Dr. Joseph Schechtman, United zionists Revisionists, and Rabbi Israel Tabak, of the Religious Zionists of America.
