Russian Jewry faces “rapid and radical annihilation” and neither the Russian Jews nor Jews in the free world can evaluate how great and how near is this danger, an American professor who visited the USSR recently, told an audience at ZOA House here.
The professor, William Brickman of New York University, speaking on Jewish life in the Communist countries, called on world Jewry to do everything in its power to effect a speedy rescue of Russian Jewry. Prof. Brickman, of the School of Education of NYU, is national president of the Comparative Education Society, an organization of professors of education. In the latter capacity he organized and went on a trip to the Soviet Union.
Prof. Brickman asserted that there is a strong anti-Semitic feeling in the Soviet Union and the other Communist countries. He cited the destruction of all Jewish life, the ban on a Hebrew and Jewish press and a lack of Hebrew books. He reported that some Jewish parents still teach their children the Hebrew alphabet at home.
