The assurance that the Government of Argentina is “determined not to tolerate any discrimination” against any group of Argentine citizens was given here by President Frondizin receiving a delegation of the World Jewish Congress.
President Frondizi stressed that complete freedom and equality is being enjoyed by all citizens in the country without difference of religion. “We are grateful to our citizens of the Jewish religion who are fully cooperating with the government,” he declared. “As it is known, there are Jewish governors in our country, Jewish members of parliament and Jewish high officials in the ranks of my government,” he pointed out.
“I understand the sympathy of the Jewish community in Argentina for Israel and the solidarity which it shows with Israel,” the President continued. “Nobody can forget his father,” he said, referring to the aid being given by Argentine Jewry to Israel.
Dr. Israel Goldstein, who headed the delegation, thanked President Frondizi on behalf of the World Jewish Congress for the hospitality of the Argentine people and for the Presidential message sent to the opening of the World Jewish Congress conference here. Dr. Goldstein said the activities of the Argentine Government were followed with interest and good will abroad and expressed the conviction that the good relations between Argentina and the United States would become still closer and more effective.
Other members of the delegation included Aryeh Tartakower, Moises Goldmann, member of the executive of the WJC, Mark Turkow, WJC representative, Dr. Abraham Miba-shan, president of the DAIA, Hirsch Triwaks, DAIA secretary, Emilio Gutkin, president of the Kehilla, and Gregorio Fainguersch, Kehilla secretary.
