Jews are the least discriminated against in employment among the so-called minority groups in San Francisco, according to a study just completed by the Council of Civic Unity under a grant from the Columbia Foundation.
The report, based on a study of the 1955-56 situation, was said to reflect the current situation substantially. It declared that Negroes, Orientals and persons of Latin American origin were most discriminated against in that order. The report also noted discrimination against Catholics by various firms in the city.
The report established that firms which were largely Jewish-owned or managed did not give preferential treatment to Jews in employment and advancement. A second part of the report will survey the situation in San Francisco in relation to hospital, health facilities, housing and public accommodations for minority elements.
