Jack Rothman and Berjamin Wolman, both of New York City, are the first recipients of the Harry L. Lurie Fellowships, it was announced today by Stanley C. Myers, Miami, chairman of the Fellowship Award Committee. The Fellowships, sponsored by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, have been established as a continuing tribute to Harry L. Lurie, executive director of the Council, after almost 20 years in that position.
The grants are designed to aid in the professional development of outstanding students with a potential for leadership in the field of social work, and to stimulate research in social welfare administration and community organization. The grants are available for graduate studies and for research projects in accredited graduate social work schools.
Mr. Rothman, who is a borough community coordinator for the New York City Youth Board, was given a grant of $1,500 towards completion of his work for the Ph..D degree at Columbia University. His research project is in intergroup relations. Mr. Wolman received a grant of $1, 000 to help complete his graduate studies in social work at Adelphi College School of Social Work. He already holds Master’s degrees in history and education. In addition to Mr. Myers, members of the Fellowship Awards committee are: Sidney Hollander, Baltimore; Isidore Sobeloff, Detroit; Benjamin B. Rosenberg, Miami; Harry L. Lurie, New York; Julian Freeman, Indianapolis; and Henry L. Zucker, Cleveland.
