Expansion of ORT facilities and program in the direction of aiding major portions of the population currently unable to take advantage of the standard ORT technical high schools, was voted here at a three-day meeting of the national board of the Women’s American ORT which concluded here last night.
In addition to calling for the formalizing of plans to initiate short-term vocational school programs, the national board also voted to raise its financial commitment to the Dr. Aron Syngalowski Vocational Training Center in Tel Aviv. Originally, the women’s group agreed to remit $500,000 in five years, but because of the increased tempo of israel’s industrial requirements, it was decided to remit $1,100,000 in an eight-year period.
The move to expand its Israel commitment followed an address by Prof. William Haber, president of the American ORT Federation and the central board of the World ORT Union, who pointed out that the movement’s 70 schools in Israel was doing yeoman work but was faced with a prospective enrollment greater than ever before. Mrs. Joseph C. Gayl of Philadelphia was elected president of the Women’s American ORT.
