There were at least 6,691 Jews in Yugoslavia as of March 31,1958, but the real figure probably exceeds that number by several hundred, according to statistics published here today by the World Jewish Congress.

The number of Jewish “souls,” comprised in 2,244 families, is based on replies to questionnaires sent out by the Federation of Jewish Communities, at Belgrade. However, the WJC offices here pointed out, there were at least several hundred other Jews who failed to reply to the questionnaires or were absent from Yugoslavia on the day the Jewish census was being enumerated.
