A hearing on the appeal of Ludwig Zind from a sentence of one year in jail for remarking publicly that “not enough Jews have been gassed” has been set for November 25 in the First Senate of the Federal Supreme Court, it was announced today.
The high school teacher was sentenced last May by the Offenburg District Court after conviction for libel and defamation of the memory of the dead. Zind asked for a new trial.
In Muellheim, Guenther Heinze, a German butcher, drew a suspended prison sentence and a 250 mark fine (approx. $62) for publicly endorsing Zind’s sentiments about the gassing of Jews. Heinze, who made his anti-Semitic statements loudly and lewdly in a local pub, was convicted of libel, public condoning of crimes, and the defamation of the memory of the dead.
