Thousands of Jewish ex-service men and women, some of them wearing the country’s highest decorations, paraded through the London streets, and participated in colorful ceremonies today as the Jewish Association of Ex-Servicemen and Women observed its annual Remembrance Parade here.
The parade was reviewed by Lieut. Gen. Sir Brian Horrocks, one-time British Army commander in Palestine. A special message thanking her “loyal and faithful Jewish soldiers for services to the Crown” from Queen Elizabeth II was read. The Rev. Isaac Levy, senior Jewish chaplain to the Royal armed forces, recited the Hebrew memorial prayer, and a wreath of red poppies, in the form of the six-point Star of David, was laid at the Cenotaph, Britain’s memorial to the Unknown Soldier.
