Presiding Justice Mordechai Kennet, of the Tel Aviv Court, will head a special military court to try Colonel Issachar Shadmi on charges of having issued the orders which resulted, on October 29, 1956, in the killing of 43 Arab civilians in the village of Kafr Kassem. They were shot down during imposition of a curfew on the eve of the Sinai campaign. Eight officers and men under Col. Shadmi’s command have been convicted of the killings and sentenced to long prison terms.
Justice Kennet will be given the rank of Colonel while he presides over the military tribunal. Serving on the court with Justice Kennet will be Col. Vivian Herzog and Col. Aharon Doron.
