The Leyden Town Council hid Torah Scrolls in the Town Hall during the Nazi occupation to prevent their being destroyed by the Nazis, it was announced here today by the president of the local Jewish congregation. He made the disclosure during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Leyden Synagogue.
It was also revealed that citizens throughout the town took in and hid hundreds of their Jewish neighbors, thereby saving their lives. The Mayor and Town Councillors attended today’s ceremony.
