Israel Plans to Export Smoked Tuna Fish to Italy and Switzerland

The successful trial shipment of smoked tuna fish to Italy and Switzerland has created the possibility of the export next winter of $500,000 worth of tuna to Europe, it was disclosed today.

Jacob Merridor, director of the newly-established Israel-Japan Fishing Company, said, in making the prediction that the company is now operating chartered ships manned by Japanese crews who are training Israelis.

He said the company will receive this year two vessels being built in Japan and France. The company also plans to operate a floating fish meal factory in the Gulf of Akaba supplying initially about one-fourth of Israel’s poultry industry which now uses imported fish meal Mr. Merridor said.
