A proposed “humane slaughter” bill, which has been pending in the State Legislature here, was shelved today and is unlikely to be brought up again at this year’s session.
All Jewish congregational and rabbinical organizations have been among the staunchest opponents of the draft measure. Last night, the agricultural committee of the State House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly–by 14 to 1–to postpone bringing the bill to the floor for an indefinite period.
