Jewish Soldiers in French Army in Algiers Get Purim Gift Parcels

Purim parcels were distributed yesterday to 650 Jews serving with the French Army here in Algeria, as well as to wounded Jewish soldiers in the French Army hospitals here. Under the aegis of Rabbi I. Kamoun, chief Jewish army chaplain in Algeria, the parcels were prepared with the aid of the Army’s social service department and with the help of Jews who contributed funds for the Purim parcels.

Vacancies in a number of key rabbinical posts in Algeria are likely to be filled soon as a result of a visit to Algeria scheduled for this week by Dr. Yaacov Kaplan, chief rabbi of France. Dr. Kaplan will make an overall examination of the organization of the rabbinate here during his visit to Algeria.
