A special auction will be held next month in this old German university town of recently discovered manuscripts left by Heinrich Heine. The manuscripts, including some historical notes, were found in Paris where the great German-Jewish poet died in 1956.

Heine had bee anathema to Germans even before the Hitler regime when his works were banned by the Nazis. The auctioning of Heine works here is considered a manifestation of the new Germany’s attitude toward the Jewish people.
