Municipality in Germany Builds New Synagogue

Plans were launched here today by the Jewish community and by municipal officials for the consecration, soon, of the new synagogue being built with funds contributed by the city.

The municipality of this North Rhine-Westphalian town allocated the funds to replace a synagogue destroyed by the Nazis in 1938 during the infamous ”Crystal Night.” There are 60 families in the Jewish congregation. Jews numbered more than 7,000 in this district before the Nazi persecutions got under way.
