NEW YORK, (May. 10)
A top ranking Arab diplomat visited an Israeli enclave here this weekend, shook hands with Israeli diplomats, and drank a toast with the Israelis lifting a glass of Israeli champagne. It all happened at the United States World Trade Fair, which is being held at the New York Coliseum, and where Israel’s pavilion is attracting wide attention.
The Arab visitor was Dr. Charles Malik, of Lebanon, former chairman of that country delegation to the United Nations and president of the UN General Assembly. Dr. Malik had just started Ms tour of the Trade Fair, when he came to the Israeli pavilion.” Instead of passing it by, as most people thought he would do. he entered. In the pavilion, he shook hands with Israel’s Consul General Simcha Pratt, and greeted other Israel officials as well as Israeli hostesses. Dr. Malik and Mr. Pratt drank a toast, on Israeli champagne, and posed for photographs together.
