Israel Ambassador Abba Eban will pay a farewell call on President Eisenhower at the White House on Friday, it was learned here today. A national testimonial dinner marking the departure of Ambassador Eban was tendered here tonight with a number of government officials, congressmen, and diplomats in attendance.

On behalf of the sponsoring committee and the America-Israel Society, Mr. Eban was presented a beautiful facsimile of the Blackstone Memorial, submitted to U.S. President Harrison in 1891. The 1891 Memorial was a petition by a group of leading Americans for a Jewish national home in Palestine.

President Theodore R. McKeldin, of the America-Israel Society, presided at the dinner. Speakers included Senate Minority Leader Everett M. Dirksen, Illinois Republican; House Majority Leader John W. McCormack; French Ambassador Herve Alphand; Sen. Jacob K. Javits, New York Republican; the Very Rev. Edward B. Bunn, President of Georgetown University; and Philip M. Klutznick, national president of B’nai B’rith.

In his response, Mr. Eban surveyed American-Israel relations, and the situation in the Near East generally. He reflected on his impressions of the United States, obtained during his tour of duty. He lauded Presidents Eisenhower and Truman and “the three eminent Secretaries of State with whom I have held constant discourse and communion on the great theme of Israel’s salvation.”
