The growth of Jewish concentrations in Canadian suburbs was illustrated in figures released today by the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, showing a 300 percent increase in the proportion of Jewish school children in a Montreal suburb since 1954.
The Protestant Board, which operates public schools for all children in Montreal except the Catholic children, reported that the number of Jewish school children in the Cote St. Luc area increased from 88 to 1,485 during the past four years. Jewish children formed 26 percent of the total school enrollment in 1954, but this proportion rose to 78 percent in 1958.
