The new Tunisian constitution, promulgated in Tunisia June 1, and received here today, contains several clauses protecting basic human rights and of particular interest to the Jews of Tunisia.
One article declares that every citizen has the right to circulate freely in Tunisia; also to leave the country. Another clause guarantees that no citizen can be expatriated or forbidden to return to the country. The constitution guarantees liberty of opinion, expression, press, assembly and association, and one clause specifically guarantees “the dignity of the individual and freedom of conscience. “
