A seven-man team of Israel geologists left today on an expedition to study volcanic rocks in a valley of East Africa extending through seven countries.
The team was made up of two Hebrew University scientists, one Weizmann Institute expert and four members of the Israel Government’s Geological Survey. In the two to three month-expedition, the team members will visit Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rhodesia, Tanganyika, Somaliland and the Belgian Congo.
Prof. Yaacov Bentur, director of the Israel Geological Survey, who is now participating in the conference on Mediterranean Geology in Moscow, was expected to join the expedition as leader.
